Qantas is experiencing an uneventful Christmas holiday season due to technical issues affecting three long-distance flights.

The plane was dramatically changed course four-and-a-half hours into its flight as it approached the coast of Antarctica.

Disembarking from the airport, approximately nine hours later.

A Qantas Flight QF63, which is an Airbus A380, departed Sydney for Johannesburg just before 10 am on Christmas Day, but shortly flew back to Sydney at 7.30pm due to a mechanical issue.

A Qantas spokesperson stated that 'the pilots' actions were in accordance with standard procedure, and they proceeded back to Sydney for a thorough inspection by the airline's engineers'.

Meanwhile in the United States, QF94 was due to depart from Los Angeles International Airport to Melbourne on 22nd December at 8:30pm local time.

Malaysia Airlines' flight MH122, reportedly, was delayed for six hours on the runway because passengers did not board the plane on time, Perth-based sports podcaster Will Schofield stated.

Schofield tweeted on Tuesday that Qantas held all passengers on the flight for 6 hours before finally letting everyone off at 2am.

Dozens of air travellers have been stuck at Los Angeles International Airport for more than two days.

'Airlines' communication with travellers has been unsatisfactory; at present, it's unclear how approximately 300 individuals will return to Australia; their flights were scheduled for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.'

Schofield stated that the flight was rearranged to depart at 10:30pm on December 23 but did not take off.

Schofield later tweeted that Qantas cancelled the flight around 30 minutes before it was supposed to take off due to an ongoing engineering issue.

'Qantas was well aware that the flight would not take off on time. A text message was sent to passengers advising of a 90-minute delay, approximately 4 hours prior to departure. Not a single flight attendant was seen approaching the gate.'

'SPIRIT OF AUSTRALIA?'

A Qantas representative from Australia told Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday that a Boeing 787 Dreamliner planned to fly on December 22 had mechanical issues with its hydraulic system which engineers were unable to repair, necessitating the substitution of a replacement aircraft.

We highly regret the significant disruption caused to our customers who have been affected by the delay in our flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne.

We can sense the letdown and irritations of this situation, especially for those who are missing out on spending Christmas with their dear ones.

'I'd like to take this opportunity to reach out to our valued customers and express our gratitude for their understanding and cooperation. In appreciation of their patience, we would also like to offer them some form of compensation.'
