Narrow-minded agenda won't get you the people's mandate, Gagasan Rakyat leader tells Bung

KOTA KINABALU: A Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah leader said that personal or partisan motives are unable to secure the people's mandate.

Federal government's information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan was commenting on Wednesday (Jan 1) about Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin's recent remarks that the Sabah state government is the most ineffective in the state's history.

Datuk Seri Bung Moktar radically pointed out that GRS had not upheld its pledge to generate thousands of job opportunities, and had also failed to resolve various infrastructure issues, among other concerns.

Nizam, duty-bound to the Chief Minister, retorted that Bung Moktar's allegations were unfounded and a product of ignorance.

He pointed out that over the four-year term of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji, state revenue has nearly doubled, while investments have shown a steady increase.

"Exhibiting examples, Sabah logged a new record with a revenue of over RM6.9 billion in 2023, the highest in the state's history.

Nizam also mentioned the substantial job opportunities created by the petrochemical investment at the Sabah Ammonia Urea Plant (Samur) as one of the examples of various investments and industrial development initiatives in the state which have brought significant employment opportunities for approximately 1,000 individuals.

"The state government is committed to creating a supportive environment for the economy's growth, which mainly focuses on rural areas," he mentioned.

Assertions of the government’s ineptitude are merely a diversion from their notable achievements under the GRS administration.

"He (Bung Moktar) must understand that his personal interests or the focus on his own political party's agenda alone will not help attract people towards him," Nizam said.
