Dazzling Christmas home display draws crowds from near and far

In Butterworth, it is common for people to enjoy the Christmas decorations and displays found at many well-known shopping malls, particularly during the month of December.

This particular house in Taman Teluk Molek, however, has become the talk of the town. A posting on social media of their dazzling festive decorations had been widely viewed, generating a massive response from people from all over with many visiting the house to see the decorations for themselves.

Their neighbours are not the only ones who are impressed by the visual display, as many people passing by are also stopping to admire the attractive and lively setup, turning it into a popular local attraction.

Charles, a contractor, mentioned that their decision to decorate their home for Christmas came after they had moved back in August following a period of renovations.

The couple, who are parents to a 20-year-old son named S. Dohnaven, used approximately RM12,000 to furnish both the interior and exterior of their house with large, attention-grabbing decorations such as twinkling lights draped along the fence, trees in the garden and decorative snowmen.

"We initially decorated our home for the fun of it, with the intention of making our home look more festive for Christmas. We generally celebrate Christmas overseas every year, but this year we decided to do it right here at our newly renovated house," explained Charles.

The outcome of the endeavour was viewed by a neighbour, who recorded the scene and shared the video on TikTok, which quickly gained a large following.

From Dec 10 onwards, hundreds of people visit daily to witness the beautiful spectacle, with many showing their kindness by bringing along gifts, food, and care packages for the family.

As the number of visitors had been increasing over the past week, Charles made the decision to elevate their experience with the addition of a snow machine.

Every evening, he sets up this attraction to create an enchanting Christmas atmosphere, offering visitors an experience reminiscent of overseas holiday celebrations.

"The party really picked up and became more vibrant when my friends started lending a hand and bearing drinks for the guests who had come to join us," said Charles.

"Terus Hari Tadi, Kami Peroleh Seramai 300 Vas Minuman Untuk Pelawat Kawanan Kami," ubahnya, mengekspresikan gembira dan rasa gembira melihat orang-orang berkumpul di rumah kami.

During this time of year, visitors from diverse backgrounds travel long distances to appreciate the Christmas decorations, creating unforgettable memories that they often document on social media, garnering significant online attention.

Quoting Christe, an accountant, the decorative lights are powered daily from 6 pm to 1 am until January 1, 2025 inclusive, with visiting children also receiving goodie bags and balloons.

We are thrilled and humbled by the attendance of people from as far as Kelantan, Johor, Perak, Kedah, and even from our nearest neighbour, Singapore.

"Every day, our team hands out over 200 care packages. On Christmas Day, we're planning to distribute double that number, a total of 400," Christe explained.

She shared that the beautiful decorations were made by both her and her husband, with the items they had collected from their various trips abroad, including ornaments and souvenirs.

"My fellow Malaysians are truly special. Even with people we don't know, we share a deep respect for one another's celebrations, which brings everyone together and makes our diverse communities even stronger," she said, smiling kindly. - BERNAMA
