Bung Moktar wants tighter security to prevent clashes between 2 rallies

PETALING JAYA: Following reports of the twin-drum beating for demonstrations to take place at the Sabah state administration building on New Year's eve, Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin has urged that intensification of security measures be enforced.

Datuk Bung Moktar Radin, the member of parliament for Kinabatangan, is worried about possible conflicts between the communities in question.

He suggested that the police assess the potential security threats of allowing parallel events to be held in the same location.

“With two assemblies planned for the same time and place on December 31, it's a serious issue even if it's meant to be a peaceful gathering,” he was tipped by Buletin TV3 as stating.

Preventive measures need to be taken promptly to avoid any unfortunate events from happening.

I comprehend that the two gatherings have their respective goals and convey significant meanings to the people.

“Namun segala pihak mestilah mengambil kira segala hal, termasuk implikasi keamanan dan kestabilan Sabah.”

I recommend that the police carry out a thorough investigation in this case and take early action to prevent any unfavorable developments.

A rally is being held following several leaked videos suggesting that several Sabah assemblymen are involved in a mining scandal.

Social media is also filled with talk of a counter rally being held on the same day and at the same location. Organized by Sekretariat Himpunan Bangkit Sabahan, the event is known as Himpunan Bangkit Sabahan.
