Four interesting family experiences in KL this school break
KUALA LUMPUR - Elected capital of Malaysia has long been a favourite destination for both local and international visitors looking for the ideal holiday spot.
No surprise that a recent survey by Hong Kong-based Klook, 'KlookDulu Malaysian Travel Preferences 2024', found that more than half of Malaysians preferred to travel to Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Melaka domestically.
The survey conducted by Klook also revealed that 87 per cent of Malaysians prefer to indulge in activities and exploration during their travels, alongside relaxation sessions.
"In line with these objectives, Kuala Lumpur provides various accommodation options for tourists to unwind. The city's numerous exhibitions and activities make it a great choice for a local break," she said in a recent interview with Bernama.
Here are some suggested activities for families during the current school holidays.
Wonderland Awaits: Alice's Enchanted Quest
Located within The Exchange TRX, a prominent shopping destination renowned for its upscale retail offerings that showcase both local and international brands, there is a lesser-known treasure to be discovered - 'Alice Saves Wonderland: The Immersive Journey' exhibition, situated on the second floor.
The exhibition, which will be held from October 26, 2024, to February 16, 2025, whisks visitors away to a mystical realm as soon as they enter through the Door of Adventure or the Door of Magic.
Ibrahim Mohd Amirrul Nizam, a 29-year-old game master at the exhibition site, revealed there are eight bewitching rooms where at the enthusiasts can embark on an adventurous tour with a mission to rescue Wonderland.
"We estimate that a typical visit to this attraction usually takes around an hour, providing a delightful experience suitable for both parents and their children," he mentioned, pointing out that the available operating hours are from 10 in the morning until 9 in the evening.
MinNature Malaysia
About three kilometres from The Exchange TRX is MinNature Malaysia, at Sungei Wang Plaza. Here, you can discover Malaysia's heritage and culture through over 500 tiny models.
MinNature Malaysia has nine fascinating sections, including "Taste of Malaysia", which showcases more than 20 three-dimensional artworks of traditional Malaysian flavours like Malaysian kuih and dim sum.
This segment features 'Heritage Buildings and Kek Lok Si Lightshow', 'We are Malaysian Series', 'Heritage Buildings and Dataran Lightshow' and 'Heritage of Buildings' that showcase various buildings from all over Malaysia. These displays reveal the country's long history and its diverse cultural richness, providing a deeper insight into its distinct national identity.
Waktu Hebat Studio Pottery Kelulusan Juga
No public holidays are complete without some fun engagement with your children. At the Good Times DIY Pottery Studio in Pavilion Bukit Jalil, families can enjoy making pottery with their own hands.
In Malaysia, tickets for the "Wheel-Throwing and Marble Artwork" activity, priced at RM175 per person, can be bought on Klook. Each session, about an hour long, will allow you to make two different types of pottery - a bowl and a cup. Engaged by an experienced instructor, you will be instructed on shaping the clay into your preferred designs.
Vivien Ng, a pottery consultant at the studio, mentioned this family-friendly activity allows participants to take their creations home after five weeks.
"Pelanggan boleh mengekspresikan kreativiti mereka di sini juga... di sini, mereka boleh belajar mencipta tembikar dan mengcustomisnya mengikut kehendak mereka. Terdapat empat hingga lima langkah utama yang pelanggan akan dapat belajar,” katanya menambahkan aktiviti itu sesuai untuk kanak-kanak berumur 10 tahun keatas.
